Gas And Electric Dryers

When purchasing a new dryer, we need to decide do we want to go for a gas dryer or an electric dryer. There are different opinions concerning which type is the best for your home. Since there are different benefits and advantages you get from both gas and electric clothes dryer, it is really a matter of a need. You will choose the one that works best for you.

The gas dryer uses gas to create a heat and dry the clothes, while there are some electric parts that serve to ignite the flame, operate the motor, thermostats, cool kit and the timer. This means that the gas dryer has more parts in comparison to the electric clothes dryer. And we all know that there is a bigger possibility that something will go wrong and break if there are more parts involved in the process. And the statistics say that gas clothes dryer does break down more often the his electric counterpart.

They both have similar parts, like motor, belt, timer, thermal fuse and thermostats. The motor is used to turn the belt that will power the basket, while timer is used to start and finish the process in the desired time set by the user. The thermostat will maintain the set temperature while a thermal fuse works as a safety net, shutting down the clothes dryer if thermostats fails to do his job.

There are few problems that are same for electric clothes dryers and gas dryers. Some of the reasons for prolonged time for clothes to dry is lint build up in the clothes dryer vent over time. You should check your ventilation from time to time in order to make sure nothing is blocking the airflow. You can also check the exhaust, to see how much hot air is coming out the vent. If the airflow is weak, then there is somethng in the way. It can be lint, birds nest or something similar.

You should also know that the gas dryer is a bit more dangerous, since there is gas involved in the process. The fumes should be vented outdoors, never indoors, and you should always have fire extinguisher nearby in case of a malfunction and fire. But if you keep your dryer in good order, maintain it and keep the vents clean, you won't have any problems with gas or electric clothes dryers.
